Plane Elasticity Finite Element Solver

A quadrilateral-element program for plane stress and plane strain calculations.

Method

The program reads a two-dimensional mesh and material properties, checks supported quadrilateral element types, constructs shape functions and the Jacobian, forms element stiffness matrices, assembles the global system, and applies prescribed displacements and nodal loads.

Reported outputs

For each element the workflow recovers strain, stress, and equivalent stress. It also computes a global residual. The report contains outputs for four stated test problems (4, 4A, 4B, and 4C), demonstrating the end-to-end calculation.

Interpretation and limits

The report labels its introduction as a one-dimensional program, but the described element types, strain-displacement relations, and four test cases are for two-dimensional plane elasticity. This page follows the actual implemented problem description.
